Answered Prayers

4Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! 5Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.c 6Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. 8And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. Phillipians 4:4-9

Good morning, friends! In case you don’t follow me on Instagram, I wanted to share here what I posted over there today, too. If you do follow me there, then you’ll get a double dose of goodness with a little more explanation here. These photos I’ve shared are from my current prayer journal, which I’ve been using since this past April. It is from Coffee and Bible Time if you’d like to check them out here: https://www.coffeeandbibletime.com/prayer-journal.

I highly recommend keeping a prayer journal if you don’t already, as it is an incredible faith-builder to be able to chronicle how God is working in your life. I’ve kept many different prayer journals over the years, but this one has, by far, been my favorite. It’s HUGE, so be aware of that…but it’s because it has a generous amount of space for you to fill for every type of prayer you can think of to pray! These are the sections: Praise, Confess, Give Thanks, Rest, Scripture, Petition, Urgent, Day of the week~Monday: Family, Tuesday: Believing Friends, Wednesday: Non-believers, Thursday: Church & Missions, Friday: Nation & World, and last but best is the Answered Prayers section. So as you can see, there’s nothing they didn’t think of when they designed it…not that I can think of anyway! The way that you use the journal is to write short prayers on sticky notes and place them in each respective section and then pray through it in whatever manner you choose (every section every day, certain sections on certain days, etc). If you write large like I do, no worries about that either because there are lined pages within each section too, and you can use those for longer prayers. I also write my poems in these pages when the Spirit moves me to.

Once you see God answer one of these prayers, you simply take it out of that section and move it to the back, under “Answered Prayers.” This is where it gets super exciting! I can’t tell you how much I’ve seen my prayer life grow since I started keeping this particular tool to help me in my quiet time. I’ve written many notes to myself that I turn into prayers and praises such as, “This is MY war room journal and the most important work I do for the Kingdom of God is done right here, during this time with You, Father. Thank you for hearing my prayers and for Your great faithfulness to respond.” Simple, but so profound in how much I’ve seen Him work when I started jotting down every little thing. Before this journal, I really only thought to write the “big stuff” down in previous ones I’d used, mostly because I just didn’t have near as much room as I do in this one. We do believe that He answers prayers, that He wants to hear from us, and that there’s nothing that concerns us that we can’t bring to His throne of grace…right?? I do! And I’m telling y’all…if you aren’t doing this, start implementing it TODAY! **The awesome thing is that these pictures I’ve shared from my answered prayers are stacked layer upon layer and that’s why I’ve got them all taped down. So in the future, maybe I’ll unstick them all and put them in a big pile and do an update! Maybe a video walk-through of the prayer journal as a whole, if anyone’s interested.

It really helps me to keep myself organized, to cover all the different kinds of prayer that I may forget when I’m just going on the fly, and to remember to be faithful to cover all those requests I’ve gotten from people where I said, “I’ll pray for you.” Haven’t we all said that at one time or another with every intention to actually do it but then before we know it, five thousand other things and thoughts have come our way and we’ve completely forgotten to pray for Susie and her family issues!? Well, now I keep a sticky note pad with me all the time and when someone messages or calls me with a prayer request, I pray right then and there for them, and I also write it down and put it in my prayer journal so I’ll be faithful to continuously pray for them.

God is an amazingly good, kind, loving, and caring Father and He wants us to come to Him with everything. Psalm 9:1-2 says “1I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. 2I will be filled with joy because of you. I will sing praises to your name, O Most High.” I have this written in the very front of my journal in the “Praise” section and I pray it to Him very regularly. And I am obeying it by sharing this post today with all of you…telling you of all that He’s doing.

Both this portion of Scripture and the one I shared at the top from Phillipians 4 tell us that we should be joyful in the Lord–rejoice and sing praises to Him. They also remind us that Jesus is coming soon, to share the Good News with all, and to live in a way that pleases and honors Him. In return, He will hear and answer the prayers of His children and give us His peace that passes all understanding. One thing that I know we can all use more of in these days is His peace. We must stand on the promises of God and fix our eyes on the Prize, for He is faithful to those who are faithful to Him (Psalm 18:25). This doesn’t mean that He’s a genie in a bottle and that He is somehow bound to answer all of our requests…not at all. He is completely sovereign and He works in accordance with His will and in ways we may not understand, as we only see things dimly now and in part, but one day He will allow us to see all things clearly, as He sees them. I have PLENTY of prayers that have not been answered yet, and I have remained faithful to pray about for 14 years and will never stop until they are answered or I go home to be with Jesus. So please don’t misunderstand me OR think that every prayer I send up is answered like this!

The message I have for us today is simply to stay faithful in all things related to our walk with Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us into a deeper relationship with and dependence on God. I really pray that these tips and sharing of His great faithfulness that I’ve seen in my own life will bring you encouragement and hope. How can we not be blown away when we see His hand on our lives?! If you have a story to share about how God has worked in your life, please leave it in the comments! This is so good for us to boast in our great God in this way and we know it brings Him glory! If you have unanswered prayer, please share those in the comments too and I’ll add you to my prayer journal (or if it’s private, please feel free to reach out to me by email at saltysaints2@gmail.com). I love to pray for people! I look forward to reading y’alls comments and I hope everyone has a Happy Hump Day!
