When Discouragement Comes…

Good morning, y’all! Today I feel inspired to bring you a message of encouragement. I’ve had more than one conversation this week regarding the discouragement that can come upon us when we’re out here shining our little lights, sprinkling salt wherever we may go, and yet feel sometimes as if we’re just spinning our wheels.

This is something that, honestly, comes up for me regularly too. But it’s awesome when you learn to distinguish those thoughts as darts from the enemy to get you off course and are able to speak to your own heart with Scripture and remind yourself that God has ordained and appointed you for such a time as this and for a great purpose! And this is true for every one of us. Because then you can continue to do whatever He’s called you to do…He calls all of us to something different, something common yet beautiful (don’t look for Him to tell you in an audible voice or send an angel —He may—but likely it’s going to be whatever He’s put in your heart, mind, and spirit, spoken by His still small voice, directing you this way or that in your day to day walk with Him). And you can walk in His ways…in His plans for you, and trust Him with the outcome-with the fruit of your good works committed unto Him.

You can also encourage others who are growing weary in doing good. Yes, this is a common thing in the life of a believer. If it weren’t, Paul wouldn’t have had to tell us:

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6:9-10‬ ‭

Right?? Right. We can feel tired, weary, run down, discouraged, defeated, distracted, and so much more. The list goes on and on. But more often than not, it’s because we are focusing too much on the fruit. Don’t get me wrong…we KNOW that the Word tells us over and over again that we have been called of God to be faithful and fruitful (there’s not a verse that says exactly that, but there are a TON of verses that this is the premise of). But we are only called to plant the seed of the Gospel and water what may have already been planted, working heartily for the Lord in all that we do…walking in the good works He’s already prepared for us…but HE is the One Who will produce and examine the fruit in the life of each person. So we can unshoulder (is that a word?) that burden from ourselves.

I know we live in a day and time where everything is measured by likes, comments, shares, followers, “friends,” subscribers, views, etc., but that’s not how God measures success, now is it? And logically and spiritually, we know better. We live to please God and not man. We know that we are citizens of heaven, not this world…that we are only pilgrims passing through a foreign land. Or as my new t-shirt I got yesterday says, “heaven is my home. I’m just here recruiting.” LOVE IT!!! Anyway, you get the point. We know the TRUTH and that’s what we have to stand on, always. We can’t let our emotions dictate our faithfulness to fulfill the mission God has called us to. It doesn’t matter how mundane or insignificant it may be. If He’s put it in your heart, mind, and spirit, He wants you to do it with all your heart. This will look different for each of us, because we’re all unique, individual creations made in His image…as pieces of a puzzle, all smaller parts making up the bigger whole. Isn’t that cool? God is so awesome, so intricate in how He has designed all of this. All of us. It’s beautiful. And it’s with great intent, purpose, and significance that each of us has been called and sent. You realize that, right?

I didn’t want this to become a real long post, but as always, I want to back up all my words and thoughts with HIS Word and thoughts. Because really, that’s all that matters. I know that this life throws us curveballs, we get down and out, and we can’t see the bigger picture sometimes. But we can trust that our great God knows exactly what He’s doing and that He has each of us right where He wants us. So let’s get out of our heads, keep our eyes on the Prize, and leave the results and outcome to the Lord. Every single ONE matters to Him. Let’s stop focusing on all the numbers and all that junk. Yes, I’m talking to me here more than anyone else. We have work to do. The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. Keep your hand to the plow and don’t look back, my friends. Here are lots of Scriptures to uplift, encourage, edify, and admonish you in the Truth.

“and whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:23-24‬ ‭

“But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.”
‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭3:13‬ ‭

“For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭6:10‬ ‭

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭

“And let our’s also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.”
‭‭Titus‬ ‭3:14‬ ‭

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:31‬ ‭

“and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:24‬ ‭

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2:15‬ ‭

“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:13‬ ‭

“And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: And establish thou the work of our hands upon us; Yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭90:17‬ ‭

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:58‬ ‭

“But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭20:24‬ ‭

Love you all and God bless you in your work for Him today!!!

This was the perfect message for me today. Having been given a medical diagnosis on Wednesday I have kept my eyes on God. I have “heard” Him to me say on two occasions “I will not forsake you”. Thank you!
