“Except the LORD build the house, They labour in vain that build it: Except the LORD keep the city, The watchman waketh but in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: For so he giveth his beloved sleep. Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: And the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; So are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: They shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.”
Psalm 127:1-5 KJV
Good morning, y’all. Something that’s been on my heart most of this week is the difficulty of today for those who’ve lost their mothers. We have two different men (along with their children and for one of them, their grandchildren too) whom the Lord has pretty recently connected us with and this is going to be their first Mother’s Day without the physical presence of their wife and mother to celebrate. My heart goes out to them as I ponder on all of the years that they spent loving Jesus and loving one another. Loving their children and their families. Loving people around them. Making a difference in their own little corner of the world. You see, for both of these men, they and their wives had relationships with the God of the universe through Christ Jesus our Lord…what a blessing!!! To truly know and understand and to have experienced the sacrificial love of Christ—this is the only way that any of us can fulfill the role of Motherhood successfully. (Fatherhood too…any “hood,” actually, but we’re talking mothers today).
Being a mother is the absolute greatest joy, privilege, honor, blessing, reward, gift, AND responsibility that we will ever experience on this earth, in my opinion. Being a mom is the only thing I have ever known beyond the shadow of a doubt that I wanted to be. And 21 years on this side of motherhood with two beautiful grandbabies in tow, I can honestly say that it has been so much more than I ever could have thought or imagined.
I feel sorry for this world we live in today. This evil culture of death who swears that the murder of the unborn brings freedom and joy and happiness and all this other garbage that they profess. As I shout loudly and proudly when we stand for life outside of the demonic gates at Planned Parenthood, “THE WOMB SHOULD BE THE SAFEST PLACE ON THE PLANET FOR A CHILD, BUT SADLY IT’S BECOME THE MOST DANGEROUS.” Abortion is NOT birth control. Abortion is MURDER. Abortion is stealing a precious life and soul away from an entire family, generation, and world. A life created in the image of God Almighty. A life full of purpose and beauty and significance. It is heartbreaking how much the ball has been dropped in the past however many decades, where people actually believe these lies, accept them, and pass them onto these younger generations.
I wrote a blog post earlier this week, “Out With The Old???” where I talked about this very matter. We are in such a state of moral depravity because we’ve removed God from everything. We say there are no moral absolutes, everyone has their own “truth,” and anything goes. Anyone who knows God and knows their Bible understands that this is all hogwash. Garbage. Lies of the enemy straight from the pit of hell. And there’s coming a reckoning. A day of wrath where ALL evil, wicked works of darkness will be exposed and judged. And everything except righteousness will be burned away.
As mothers, it is our duty to lead our children and grandchildren and everyone around us closer to Christ. There are many ways we can do this. And there are even more ways we can fail. We need the love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, strength, and power of the Holy Spirit alive and active in and through us every single day of our lives. What we do today matters for eternity. That’s a big weight…a big responsibility. But what a reward and day of rejoicing it will be when we meet Jesus face to face and we hear, “well done, my good and faithful daughter (servant).”
Amen and amen!!! Whatever side of motherhood you are on today, I pray that you are celebrated and that your life has been one filled with joy and great purpose as a wife, mother, grandmother, etc. And the awesome thing is, if it hasn’t been up to this point, every day is a new day to start over!!! By the grace of God, call upon Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and surrender your life to Him and BECOME the woman you should and could be, in Him. “Behold, if anyone is in Christ, SHE is a new creation…Old things have passed away and ALL things become new!!!!” 2 Cor. 5:17. Praise God, hallelujah!!!!
Happy Mother’s Day, everyone!!!
*Edited to add: sooooo much more I could have said on motherhood. So so so very much more. Here’s a song Will just shared with me that brought tears. Hope you mommas all enjoy.
